Hawai`i SBDC Network staff are encouraged to take personal time in conjunction with business travel. However, such travel planning and procurement incur special responsibilities. Note particularly the following:
Administrative Assistants are not required, nor should they be encouraged, to handle personal travel arrangements for staff (related to business travel) and are permitted to handle it only if such arrangements do not interfere with their normal functions and responsibilities.
Adding personal travel to a business trip complicates obtaining comparisons and determining proper procurement. Personal travel must not increase the cost of the primary business travel for the Network at any time, including the booking time of travel (where advance booking generally obtains lower fares). Any additional costs incurred because of personal travel must be paid by the traveler personally. It is important to avoid improprieties in these situations.
